PROVENANCE - ECHO OF THE FILM

From forest to You,
seven honest steps.

  1. Young wild Amanita muscaria egg stage breaking through moss, Coast Mountains of British Columbia01

    Surfaced

A white veil breaks the moss before sunrise - the egg stage of wild Amanita muscaria in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia. We walk the same stands every dawn of the short autumn flush; here is how we tell the fly agaric apart.

  2. Hand-picking a wild fly agaric mushroom at the base, one cap at a time02

    Picked

Each cap is taken by hand at the base - one from a colony, never more. The mycelium and the veiled eggs stay untouched, so the same stand fruits again next season. Single origin means exactly that: one dawn, one forest.

  3. Brushing spruce needles off a fresh Amanita muscaria cap with a soft brush03

    Cleaned

Spruce needles and moss come off with a soft dry brush; the caps are never washed. Water dulls the brick-red and invites rot - a dried specimen stays honest only if it stays dry from the first minute.

  4. Amanita muscaria caps drying at 40 °C in a dehydrator, dried fly agaric Canada04

    Dried, 36 h

Thirty-six hours at 40 °C in moving air, finishing with a brief rise to 90 °C so residual ibotenic acid converts to muscimol. The caps come out paper-light, colour held.

  5. Vacuum-sealing dried Amanita muscaria caps into a ShroomsBloom pouch05

    Sealed

Vacuum-sealed the same week. Airtight and dark is how dried fly agaric caps keep their structure and colour for years.

  6. Dried fly agaric caps curing in a cool dark room06

    Cured - in the dark

Weeks in a cool dark room finish what the dryer began: the specimen settles, the aroma quiets, the red deepens to its archive shade.

  7. Sealed pouches of dried Amanita muscaria logged in the ShroomsBloom archive07

    Into your hands

The pouch leaves us flat, quiet and tracked, and arrives exactly as it left the dark room - one dawn in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, folded into a sealed specimen of wild Amanita muscaria (fly agaric), now yours to keep on the shelf.
