A hundred and fifty-five caps, near enough

Five hundred grams comes to something like 155 caps. This is the archive size, one autumn under a single seal instead of five separate hundred-gram orders spread across a year, and it is bought by people who want the batch to stay the same batch from the first cap to the last.

Every one of those caps was picked on its own. Half a kilo is not a bigger scoop of the same operation: it is 155 separate stops in the moss across the weeks a season lasts, each cap lifted and laid in an open basket by hand. That is the part of the price the arithmetic below does not show.

The lowest gram price we sell

C$560 is C$ 1.12 / g. Nothing on this product goes lower. Against the 30 g pouch at C$ 1.90 / g, the gram here costs a little over half as much, and against 200 g at C$ 1.30 / g it is about 14% less.

It is also the biggest single move on the scale: 14% off the gram between 200 g and 500 g, where the two smallest pouches sit 9% apart. The saving grows towards the top of the scale rather than tapering off at it.

Half a kilo through Canada Post

C$560 is well past the C$150 line, so tracked postage is free and Xpresspost costs the C$11 difference. Half a kilogram is a tenth of what the flat-rate box takes, so the weight changes nothing about the rate or the 2–8 business days it travels in.

Why an amount this size is seasonal

You can buy Amanita muscaria in Canada in any month of the year; nobody picks it in any month of the year. The harvest runs from late August into early December, and every batch then rests three months under vacuum before it is sold. An order of five hundred grams therefore comes out of a season that finished months earlier: the current one is the October-November 2025 single origin harvest, ready now.

^* No cap comes out of a forest perfectly clean, and a brush only gets so far. Expect the odd spruce needle, a fragment of dry leaf or a little soil in the pouch. We do not wash them: washing would put back the water the dryer spent 36 hours taking out.

Anything sold for people to eat falls under Canada's food and natural health product rules, which is why this is sold as a botanical specimen instead.
